May 23, 2013

We had Zone Conference this last Wednesday. It was awesome. President Porter unloaded on why we are a chosen and valiant generation. He talked about who we were in the spirit world. It was awesome. I learned a lot about who I was and who I need to be.

Then he talked about the Doctrine of Christ. Everything we are all called to do in this life is to help others increase their faith in Jesus Christ and continue on the path to Eternal life. It was awesome. Then towards the end, He talked about the sacrament.

We were all in the chapel and he talked about Jesus Christ. Who He is, and what He went through. And what the sacrament means. It was powerful. The sacred personal witnesses I had in that room were life changing. I will never miss another sacrament meeting again. But it's all of what we make of it. Is it really real to us? The line that really struck me was, "Are you really being touched by the blood of the lamb when you are holding a cup of water?" It was awesome. I had a very powerful witness that this is all real.

Then the next day we had leadership, and it was awesome. It helped me direct my work and to know what to focus on. It was fun seeing all the Elders and Sisters.
Love you!!

Letter to Mom
I had a good birthday. I really did. I loved the packages! thank you so much!! It was awesome. I had a 6 hour meeting with President Porter and the Stake President, and the other ZLs (zone leaders) and STLs (sister training leaders.)

So that particular one is called a stake report. The Zls and Stls report to our Stake Pres. It goes like this:
  • Pre-pre meeting (Just the missionaries prepare what we will do)
  • Pre meeting (now with President Porter)
  • Meeting
  • Post meeting (just with president, this is where he tells us what we are doing wrong haha but in a very constructive way)
  • Post post meeting (we discuss what we will do)

President left at like 9:30pm and came back like 20 min later with ice cream! It was awesome. I had a good week. Not too much happened. But I love you!

I know what Love is

Love is my companion. Literally. His name is Elder Love. Yes I've made tons of jokes don't worry. He is so funny. I Love him. Get it. Well I'm sending this email with Love. It's right next to me. Love is in the room. I teach with Love. I eat with Love. I do everything with Love now. It never gets old.

Anyway I had a really cool experience this week. This weekend, "G" was baptized. She has been married to her husband who is a member for 7 years. He has changed his life around. She has been coming to church for a long time. Brother "M" has had cancer for a year now. He was supposed to die around Christmas time. He never gave up hope with his wife. His dream was to be able to baptize her.

After 7 years, his dream and her dream came true. "G" had a very strong witness that this was true. She wanted to be with her husband forever. So she finally made the decision to be baptized. The service was packed. The ward loves her. The spirit was so strong. Brother "M" couldn't stop crying. Seven years of never giving up. It was one of the most powerful experiences I've ever been a part of. The happiness they have will be eternal.

I know that this work is the work of God. There is no way I would have done that on my own. This is Christ's work. He is directing it. I know this Church is true. I know that through the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ we can find true peace and happiness. I know that Christ is my savior. I am getting to know Him more and more especially when I'm in the homes of others testifying about Him.
Love Elder Verdoni

Transfers, Green Skies and Pies

This week was a blast! Tuesday we went to Cincinnati for a meeting that lasted all day. It was really good. I learned a lot. On the way back there was a huge thunderstorm. And the sky turned green! It was so cool. I was so pumped to finally see a tornado, but there wasn't any.. well tornado season is here and the area I'm in got an F4 like 20 years ago so maybe it's time for another idk. I'm 18 I cant die I'm invincible.

Wednesday we had our zone meeting and I got pies thrown in my face. Well it was just a lot of whip cream but it was so funny. I got it all over my face and in my nose lol. But it was worth it.

Thursday was pretty awesome! "C" the lady from Ghana was baptized! She moved here from Africa about 4 months ago now. I was so pumped to see her make this decision.

Friday I had a very heated conversation with a guy that had no idea what he was talking about. I was pretty mad and I let it overtake me. I was reading earlier that day about self-mastery and in Proverbs 15:1 says "A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger." I know this now to be true. We do not have to let certain people or situations get the best of us. No matter how mad some one may make you, you have the choice of how the rest will go.

Anyway, so transfers are here and I'm staying but elder Lemiuex is leaving :(
Love you,
Elder Verdoni
